Fun things to do this weekend in MI Great Lakes Bay



Hi there! Hope all of you have had a wonderful week so far!  We're excited that fall is coming because that means a lineup of great festivals for the month of September! This weekend, you can have an “exotic” afternoon if you are in Saginaw’s Japan Festival. You can also celebrate the early fall with hundreds of visitors at the RE/MAX Midland Balloon Festival, or, join the move while enjoying great music at the City Fest in Downtown Bay City.



Japan Festival

Date: September, 16, 2012. 1-4 p.m.
Location: Japanese Cultural Center & Tea House (527, Ezra Rust Drive,
Saginaw, Michigan, 48601)

We are proud to have the Japanese Culture Center and Teahouse, one of the most authentic Japanese gardens in North America, in Saginaw. The Japan Festival, brought to you by the Japanese Culture Center, is an annual free event bringing Japanese traditions and entertainments to public. You can have an opportunity to know more about the Japanese culture in the easiest way: enjoying authentic Japanese food and music, and traditional performances such as taiko drums in the festival.

If you would like to experience more Japanese tradition, then we are sure you don’t want to miss the traditional tea ceremony experience in the Japan Festival.  The Japanese Culture Center and Teahouse has been well-known for its tea ceremony class. In the tea ceremony, You will be served Maccha Tea (powdered green tea) and a Japanese sweet while learning about the art of Japanese tea ceremony. The tea ceremony usually costs $8 per person, however, the tea ceremony tickets will be given away the day of the festival within the teahouse grounds! Three tea ceremonies will be held within the day of the festival, each allowing a capacity of 30 guests. First come, first serve.

RE/MAX of Midland Balloon Festival


Date: September, 14-16, 2012.
Location: Midland County Fairgrounds (6905, Eastman Ave., Midland, MI 48642)

Whether you are a professional/amateur photographer or a person who just wants to enjoy the beautiful sky decorated by hot air balloons with your family and friends, you don’t want to miss the RE/MAX of Midland Balloon Festival. Hundreds of people gather at the Midland County Fairgrounds to see this spectacular view every year. It is not only one of the biggest hot air balloon festivals but also one of few hot air balloon festivals that charges no admission fee in Michigan.

The RE/MAX of Midland Balloon Festival is celebrating its 22nd Anniversary September 14-16, 2012 at the Midland County Fairgrounds. The RE/MAX Midland Balloon Festival may be the only big hot air balloon show that is free to public, but visitors are encouraged donating canned food as admission fee. The donations will go to the Food Pantry of Midland County.

There would be 2 launches for each day.  The morning launch is usually around 7:30 a.m., and the evening launch is approximately at 6 p.m. In addition to hot-air balloons show, the skydiving show is scheduled at approximately 7:00 p.m. on Saturday evening.

The 2nd Annual City Fest Bay City


Date: September, 16, 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. (with The Detroit Doors Tribute Band at 7 p.m.)
Location: Wenonah Park & The Friendship Shell

After successfully rocking Bay City last year, the City Fest has become one of the most popular events in Bay City.  The City Fest is going to celebrate its 2nd annual event and is ready to bring the full excitement to Downtown Bay City. This is a free event for all ages, featuring local and national touring artists. There is no admission fee, but donations are accepted.

This year, The Detroit Doors Tribute Band, one of the national leading Doors tribute bands, will rock Bay City and make you feel like being at a real Doors concert. In addition to all-day-long concert, the City Fest also includes food vendors, a kid's tent, kid's games, and a magician, which is a perfect event for family and kids as well.
